PvP in Allods Online: Archetypes

Allods Online PvP Intro

Many players ask questions like “What is the most imba PvP class in AO?”, “How well my <insert archetype name here> does in PvP?” and so on. I see almost equal number of such questions in zone on official forum. Seems that this topic is really important for tons of gamers.

One of the reasons why I like Allods so much is that classes are quite balanced both from PvP and PvE point of view. So none of them is worthless and none has “I win” button. No matter what your class is you can still kill enough enemy players to get PvP titles and buy PvP reputation gear. But play-styles differ greatly from class to class and each archetype has it’s strengths and weaknesses in comparison with other classes.

In this post I’ll try to describe all Allods archetypes from PvP point of view. While reading keep in mind that the game is still in beta test so balance may be changed by devs a any moment.

Paladins. Pallas are quite strong in close combat because they combine high armor values and ability to heal themselves while absorbing  incoming damage. It makes them great in 1v1 encounters against classes with no self-healing abilities and lack of control spells. On high levels Pallas get great healing spells and one good aggro ability that works against enemy players which makes them more valuable in group vs. group PvP. The easiest way to kill Paladin is to give him no chance to use self heal spells by either inflicting a lot of damage in the beginning of battle or clever use of control skills.

Warriors. Warriors look like a class very similar to Paladin but with no healing spells. To compensate this Warriors have a lot of control, interrupt and AOE damage abilities. Winning a fight against warrior requires keeping him at distance (if you’re range class) or healing yourself during the battle fast. Warriors should try to finish fight as soon as possible by combining their powerful combo blows with knock-back skills. Also keep enemies as close as possible to make sure you can interrupt their long-cast spells in time.

Healers. Today melee healers is one of the strongest Allods Online PvP classes. I’m afraid they will be nerfed soon :( I recently posted several great melee Healer PvP guides made by Taurgim, check them if you haven’t done it already. PvE healer spec Healers are great support characters: they are hard to kill, can inflict good amount of damage and simultaneously heal party members. Killing Healer is like killing Paladin – control him or show a great DPS on him.

Warden. Some players think that Warden is the weakest PvP class in the game. It’s not true. Firstly, melee Wardens are quite good, especially in mass battles where they can greatly annoy casters with their pet while dealing decent damage to their target. Secondly, warden is invaluable in end-game Astral PvP where his party healing abilities can save lives numerous times. The truth is that warden was designed as a support class and he shows his best abilities only when he’s playing in the group.

Scouts. If you playing Scout or are attacked by Scout there is only one thing that define the outcome of 1v1 PvP batttle. This thing is distance. Sniper scout can deal the amount of damage equal to 80% of enemy player’s health with just two shots. But in close range this class is usually weaker than most other classes, even cloth casters such as Mages. To manage distance between him and the opponent Scout has some slowing and knock back abilities which he should use as often as possible.

Psionicists. Psionicist are, like Scouts, often considered one-shot killers. But they are awesome in PvP not because of their high DPS but due to their wide variety of control spells and abilities. Sometimes they kill the enemy before he even realises what’s happening. Their main weakness is that most of their spells are working on one target only so in group PvP they are usually first targets, even before healers.

Mages. Mages are good PvP damage dealers who survive by using and renewing their shields. When mage is out of mana he becomes easy prey for anyone but with enough mana he may outlive even Warriors in close combat. Another Mage weakness is DoTs. They aren’t absorbed by the shields. Mages have good control spells both for 1v1 and mass skirmishes. Icy Grave give mage enough time to replenish mana and Wall of Fire stuns and damages enemies engaged in melee combat with other party members.

Summoner. Summoners are good all around characters for PvP: they have single target and mass DoTs, healing abilities and pets. They are one of the best PvP classes. Their main weakness is low armor and lack of good shields to absorb damage. Another weakness is very few control spells. To kill summoner you have to control or ignore his pet and try to deal a lot of damage before he puts on you his DoTs. When summoner is dead you should still heal yourself like crazy or dispell his DoTs if you don’t want to share his fate soon.
